lightsshades’ recent hit Paris Under Cloud has gotten a good response. My first impression of this photo was it’s tiny icon at the bottom of the “Photos From Your Contacts” display. I immediately came up with four neat excuses as to why this was actually my photo. I knew instinctively that this was going to be a good one.
It has all the elements of a honestly good photo. Interesting weather plus that perfect lighting that catches your eye and makes you think “hmm”. The striking image of dark cloud and rain reaching down upon the Paris city centre makes for rare case of ‘actually interesting’. The buildings are lit up well and the top of the Eiffel Tower can be seen in shadow.
This combination of long shadows and isolated rain was easy to spot from two miles away. Something that is needed in the tiny-icon world of Flickr.
If this was my photo, I would have added some vignette, and played with the clarity and contrast sliders to serve my addiction to eye-candy. But that’s just my style of photo.
I say to lightsshades,
Nice capture, and executed well!
